You can create project templates to quickly create projects without having to set up all the project details from scratch every time you confirm a deal with a customer.
Project templates can be created for one-off and retainer projects. While you can’t create project templates for internal projects, you can use templates for other project types to pre-fill the details when creating a new internal project. Any client links that were pre-filled from the template will be removed once you select the Internal project type.
Note! Project templates are available for Growth, Performance, and Enterprise plans, as well as the legacy Standard, Pro, and Ultimate plans. For more information, see our Plans & pricing page.

1. Creating a new project template
To create a new project template:
- Go to Projects > Project templates.
- Click the + New button.
- Enter a name for your project template in the Project template name field and fill out all the project data you want to be prefilled when using this template in the future.
- You can also link one or several task bundles to each project phase. This way, you can save yourself some time when managing similar or identical projects by predefining relevant sets of tasks already in the template.
- You can also effortlessly set up a waterfall project using the Back-to-back phases toggle switch. It automatically creates finish-to-start dependencies between project phases and milestones. Learn more about task dependencies.
- Once you’ve added all the details you wanted, click Save to finish creating the project template.
Note! Creating a new project template only creates the template; it doesn’t automatically add a new project to the project list.
2. Viewing and modifying a project template
You can view all project templates under Projects > Project templates.
To modify a project template, click on the template name and make the necessary changes.
3. Using a project template when creating a new project
When you’re creating a new project, just pick a suitable template from the Use project template dropdown, and all pre-saved data on the project will be filled in automatically.
Applying a template overrides any details you added beforehand - that’s why we recommend always starting with using the template and modifying the project details afterwards.
