1. Plan availability
Project templates are available on the following Scoro plans:
- Current plans: Growth, Performance, and Enterprise
- Legacy plans: Standard, Pro, Ultimate
For more information on our plans, see our Plans & pricing page.
2. Creating a new project template
To create a new project template:
- Go to Projects > Project templates.
- Click the + New button.
- Enter a name for your project template in the Project template name field and fill out all the project data you want to be prefilled when using this template in the future.
- You can also link one or several task bundles to each project phase. This way, you can save yourself some time when managing similar or identical projects by predefining relevant sets of tasks already in the template.
- You can also effortlessly set up a waterfall project using the Back-to-back phases toggle switch. It automatically creates finish-to-start dependencies between project phases and milestones. Learn more about task dependencies.
- Once you’ve added all the details you wanted, click Save to finish creating the project template.

3. Viewing and modifying a project template
To view the project templates, go to Projects > Project templates. By default, you'll see your own project templates, but you can filter the project templates list by:
- users (template creators)
- statuses assigned to templates
- clients
To modify a project template, click on the template name and make the necessary changes.
4. Using a project template when creating a new project
To create a new project from a project template:
- Start creating a new project – click the + New button in the project task list or click the Quick actions button on your site menu and select New project.
- Pick the right template from the Use project template dropdown. This will automatically fill in the relevant fields in the project modify view based on the template, overriding any details you added beforehand.
5. Known limitations
Project templates in Scoro have a few limitations to consider:
-
No templates for internal projects:
- Project templates can be created only for one-off and retainer projects.
- While you cannot create project templates for internal projects, you can use other project-type templates when creating a new internal project. To do so, select the project template from the Use project template dropdown, which automatically fills out the project details based on the template. Then switch the project type to Internal, and any client links pre-filled from the template will be removed.
-
Revenue models can be specified only when creating a project:
- The revenue model cannot be specified on a project template; you'll need to select it manually after using the template during project creation.
-
Template and project creation are separate actions:
- Saving a new project template creates the template itself; it does not automatically add a new project based on the template, as that is a separate action. See this section to learn how to add a new project based on your template.
-
Project template selection overrides data entered beforehand:
- Applying a template to a new project overrides any details you manually entered in the project modify view beforehand. Always select your project first before making any further project detail modifications.
-
Project templates cannot be used when creating projects from a quote or contact card:
- Project templates can only be used when creating a project from scratch. Since template selection during project creation overrides any data entered beforehand, this limitation prevents overwriting crucial document or contact details and creating possible data conflicts.
