A subtask is a smaller task nested under a parent task. When you add a subtask to a regular task, that task becomes a parent task. Learn more about task types in Scoro.
- Subtasks can be added to regular tasks (tasks without subtasks) and parent tasks (tasks with at least 1 subtask).

1. Ways to create subtasks
1.1. From the task detailed view
There are two ways to add a subtask in the task detailed view of a regular or parent task:
- If you want to fill out the full subtask details right away, click the Add subtask button above the Remaining column in the task list. This will open the task modify view, where you can fill out the task details.
- To quickly add a subtask without specifying its full details, click the Add subtask button, enter the subtask title, and press the Enter key. This will save the subtask right away, letting you quickly add multiple subtasks one after another, and you can specify their details later.
1.2. Creating subtasks from the project task list
Note! The project task list must already contain at least one regular task in order to add a subtask.
Use the project task list to add subtasks while keeping the entire project structure in your view.
To add a new subtask in the project task list:
- Locate the task you want to break down.
- Click the Expand (>) button on the left side of the task row to reveal the subtask list (if it's not already visible).
- Click the Add subtask button, enter the subtask title, and hit Enter to save it. You can open the task later to specify the full task details.
You can also add a task bundle as subtasks by clicking the three-dot icon next to the Add subtasks button and selecting Add task bundle as subtasks.
1.3. From the Gantt chart
To plan subtasks directly on your project timeline, you can add them from the Gantt chart:
- Locate the regular or parent task on the Gantt chart.
- Click the Expand button on the left side of the task name to expand the task's subtask list (if it's not already visible).
- Click the Add subtask button, enter the subtask title, and press the Enter key. Make sure to save the changes you made in the Gantt chart, as they're not saved automatically.
2. Frequently asked questions
Can you add subtasks when creating tasks from a quote?
The tasks created from a quote are regular tasks, which you can later turn into parent tasks by adding subtasks under them. Adding subtasks when creating tasks from a quote is not possible at the moment.
