The task view, also called task detailed view, is the central view in Scoro for getting a comprehensive overview of the work required for the particular task, its current progress, and its relationship to other data on your site.
You can access a task's detailed view by clicking its title anywhere in Scoro, including the task list, task board, Planner, project view, and more.
This article will walk you through each section of the task detailed view and the various actions you can take there.

1. Task view header
The task header includes the following details:
- Task name
- Status
- Activity type (if selected)
- Start and due dates (if selected)
- Assignees and the responsible user (if the responsible user setting is enabled on your site)
- Billable status (if billable time is enabled on your site)
- Linked project, contact (person or company), and quote (if linked)
- Progress bar
The header of a subtask's detailed view also indicates the parent task it belongs to (the purple row). Click on it to quickly navigate to the parent task's detailed view.
1.1. Changing the task status
To quickly change the task's status in the task detailed view, click on the status indicator below the task's title and select the necessary status.
1.2. Assignees and the responsible user
In the task header, you can see and manage the assignees and the responsible user (if the responsible user setting is enabled on your site).
- If the task has no assignees, the assignee section will show the Unassigned icon. To assign it, click that icon and select the necessary user(s) or role(s).
- If the task already has assignees, you can reassign it to someone else by clicking the task assignee's image or initials and selecting the relevant user(s) or roles.
When assigning or reassigning a task, enable the Notify checkbox to notify the assignee(s).
If the custom split of planned time functionality is enabled on your site, you can split the time equally or in a custom split. Learn more.
Pro tip! To instantly remove the task assignees and assign the task back to the responsible user, double-click on the Responsible user's avatar.
To replace an assigned role with an actual user from the task detailed view:
- Click on either of the assignees' avatars.
- Click on the assigned role to start the role replacement flow.
- Scoro automatically expands this role to show all users with that role. Select the team member you want to assign to the task and click Apply.
1.3. Progress bar
The task's progress bar indicates the planned, scheduled, completed, and remaining time. Here's what each color on it means:
- Blue (solid) – done time
- Blue (striped) – scheduled time
- Grey – remaining time (planned time minus the done and scheduled time)
- Red (solid) – overtime (done time minus the planned time)
- Red (striped) – overscheduled time (the excess scheduled time that goes over the planned time)
Hover the cursor over the progress bar sections to see the total time of each section.
The percentage on the right side of the progress bar indicates what percentage of the planned time is already done.
Here's where the progress bar values come from for regular tasks (tasks without any subtasks) and subtasks:
- Planned – task's planned duration
- Scheduled – total time of future time entries
- Done – total time of time entries marked as done
- Remaining – buffer time that's not done or scheduled
Here's where the progress bar values come from for parent tasks (tasks without any subtasks):
- Planned – total planned duration of the parent and all its subtasks
- Scheduled – total time of future entries on the parent and all its subtasks
- Done – total time of done time entries on the parent and all its subtasks
- Remaining – buffer time that's not done or scheduled on the parent and its subtasks (the planned time of the parent and its subtasks minus the done and scheduled time of the parent and its subtasks)
Note!
- When working with parent tasks and subtasks, we recommend logging time under subtasks to ensure good data hygiene.
- If you're looking at the progress bar values and they don't seem to match the total values listed under all subtasks, there's probably time logged on the parent task. Check the parent task's Time entries section to validate this.
1.4. Marking the task as done
If the work required for the task is complete, click the Mark as done.
A parent task can be marked as done only when all its subtasks are marked as done.
If the task contains scheduled time entries or past entries not marked as done, Scoro will ask you to confirm whether you want to mark all past time entries as done on their scheduled due date, and mark the future time entries as done today.
If you marked the task as done by mistake, you can revert it:
- Click on the Modify button to open the task modify view.
- Untick the Done checkbox, then click Save.
2. Subtasks section (if site uses subtasks)
If your site uses subtasks, the task detailed view also contains a Subtasks section, where you can add and manage subtasks.
To navigate from the parent task's detailed view to a subtask's detailed view, click on the subtask's name in the subtask list. You can also click the number under the Comments column to go straight to the subtask's Comments section.
2.1. Customizing the subtask section view
Use the Show tasks filter to view only not done tasks, done tasks, or both.
You can also customize the data columns shown in the Subtasks section:
- Click the Columns button.
- Select the columns you want to see, adjust their order by dragging them to the right place if needed, and click Apply.
2.2. Creating subtasks
To create a subtask in the task detailed view of a regular task or a parent task:
- Click the Add subtask button.
- Enter the task name and press the Enter key. Repeat this step to add multiple subtasks in a row.
Note! You cannot create a subtask under a subtask.
Alternatively, you can add a task bundle as subtasks by clicking the three-dot icon and selecting Add task bundle.
2.3. Modifying subtasks
The Subtasks section in the task detailed view lets you quickly make the following changes to your subtasks without needing to open the subtask detailed view:
- Assignee – click on the Unassigned icon to assign the subtask to a user or role (if role assignment is enabled on your site), or click on the assigned user's avatar to reassign it to someone else.
- Status – click on the status indicator and select the necessary status.
-
Activity type – click on the activity type that the subtask inherited from its parent to change it to a different one.
- If the parent task doesn't have an activity type, the subtask won't have one either. Click the empty field under the Activity type column and choose the appropriate activity type.
- Due date and Start date – click the empty fields under the respective columns to set the subtask’s start and due dates, or click the already assigned dates to change them.
-
Planned – set the subtask’s planned duration by clicking the field under the Planned column. If your site uses billable time, here’s how setting or adjusting the planned duration in this column works:
- For one-off and retainer project subtasks:
- The planned hours you set are billable.
- If you’re modifying the planned hours for a subtask with custom billable hours, the additional hours you add are added as non-billable.
- To adjust the billable hours on the subtask, you’ll need to open the modify view of that subtask and adjust it accordingly.
- For internal projects, the entered planned hours are always non-billable.
- For one-off and retainer project subtasks:
3. Time breakdown section (on regular and parent tasks)
The Time breakdown by roles section in a parent task's detailed view includes the time breakdown chart (included only in certain Scoro plans). This chart helps you:
- Track your budget by roles
- Determine if you’re nearing the budget or going over it
- Address the potential issues in a timely manner before they even occur.
For tasks where multiple people are working on the same task, the chart provides better visibility into who and where went over the budget.
Learn more about this chart in our Time breakdown chart at the task level article.
4. Time entries section
In the Time entries section of the task detailed view, you can add and manage the task's time entries. All time tracker entries, manual time entries, and calendar events linked to the task will appear there.
The Time entries section of a parent task displays only time entries that are linked to or created directly on the parent task.
See our Time entries article to learn more about adding and managing time entries in the Time entries section in the task detailed view.
5. Comments section
The Comments section in the task detailed view lets you share your thoughts on the task, collaborate with other team members, and document its progress.
Learn more about adding and managing comments in our Comments and notifications article.
6. Files section
The Files section in the task detailed view lets you upload files. We recommend keeping all task-related files here to ensure they are all in one place.
Learn more about managing files in our Uploading a file to Scoro article.
