You can invoice your customer partially by picking and choosing the quoted products or services or by choosing a certain percentage or quantity of the work. This article shows how to create various types of partial invoices.
Partial invoice
Note! Partial invoicing is a paid add-on. To activate it on your site, just go to Settings > Administration > Plan, add-ons and billing.
Scoro’s partial invoicing makes it effortless to invoice the customer for a portion of the work and charge them for the rest when the project is finished.
To create a partial invoice from the original quote that you sent to your client:
- Click the Create invoice button
- Choose the Select lines for partial invoicing option and click Proceed
- Tick the checkbox(es) for the service(s) you want to invoice
- Choose the percentage or the quantity of the work
- Click Proceed and Save to create your invoice.
Once created, you can send the partial invoice to your client as a PDF.
In the quote detailed view, you can hover over the colored dots under the Inv. column to check the invoicing status for each product:
- Gray - waiting to be invoiced
- Yellow - the product/service is partially invoiced
- Green - the product/service is fully invoiced
- Orange - the product/service has been invoiced more than originally quoted
Once your project is finished, just go back to the original quote and follow the same steps as above to create the invoice for the rest of the services or work.
By default, you can only see the lines that haven’t been fully invoiced. For example, if you made a partial invoice for 20% of the services, you can now compile an invoice for the 80% left. The same is true for quantity – if you invoiced for 2 hours of services out of the 10 quoted, the remaining amount now shown in the partial invoice view is 8 hours.
To see all quoted and invoiced lines, even the fully invoiced ones, tick the Show fully invoiced lines checkbox.
In the quotes list view, you can see the difference between what was originally quoted and what has been invoiced by following these steps:
- Click View
- Open the Data columns list
- Tick the Difference checkbox and click Display
- Hover over the colored dots to see the documents' status.
Partial prepayment invoice
Prepayment invoices can be used as a middle step between an initial quote and the final sales invoice. For example, after your client has accepted your offer (quote), you may ask them for a prepayment for some of the services or a certain percentage of the quote to confirm the order.
You can save time and effort by creating the partial prepayment invoice straight from the quote confirmed by the client. To do so, click Create from quote..., select Create prepayment invoice, and follow the same steps for selecting the products and percentage or quantity of work as described in the previous section.
To see the list of all prepayment invoices, go to Invoices > Prepayment invoices.
Once you’re ready to create a final sales invoice:
- Open the prepayment invoice
- Click Create from prepayment invoice... and select Create invoice.
While saving the invoice, a pop-up is shown with the option to use the prepayment. If you click Yes, the invoice sum is automatically deducted from the prepayment balance.
If the customer has made multiple prepayments or you wish to use only a certain amount of the prepayment to cover for the invoice, select No.

Partial scheduled invoice
A scheduled invoice is not an actual invoice; it's more like a rule for Scoro to create an invoice for a scheduled time automatically. This is useful if you offer your clients monthly or other recurring services.
For example, the client has accepted your offer. One of the offered services is a monthly consultation for three months. Just create a partial scheduled invoice from the original quote, and Scoro will automatically compile and send it out each month.
To create a partial scheduled invoice from the quote detailed view:
- Click Create from quote... and select Create scheduled invoice
- Choose Select lines for partial invoicing and click Proceed
- Choose the issue interval, invoice date, and the date of the last issue
- Decide whether the invoices are sent out automatically or not.
- Once everything is correct, click Save.
To see the list of all scheduled invoices, go to Invoices > Scheduled invoices.
When the scheduled invoice is compiled, it’s also visible in the Invoice list.
